How to use nDevFS?

I see that kernel26-2.6.13.4-2 is compiled with the ndevfs patch. UDev is kind of slow at boot, so I'm wondering, how do I use nDevFS? Is it ready to use by this point?

Re: How to use nDevFS?

I really hate the devs hopping ... devfs, udev, ndevfs ... argh.

Re: How to use nDevFS?

Uhh, uDev isn't going to be obsoleted by nDevFS any time soon. nDevFS is just an alternative for those who don't need uDev's new capabilities and/or don't like it for some reason.

(Any idea how to use nDevFS? Is devfsd required?)

Re: How to use nDevFS?

afaik it is just a "proof of concept" and not meant to be part of the kernel, as far as I understood the author.

Re: How to use nDevFS?

Then why is the patch even included in the kernel?

(From what I've heard, it's designed to be an actual substitute for DevFS, for those not in need of uDev's capabilities. Perhaps I was wrong... Still, I'd like to know how to use it. Do I have to create some sort of executabl script in /sbin or something?)

Re: How to use nDevFS?

I did just some google and a9 research, and don't know wether my informations are really up to date or not. But I found no HowTo's or recipe in how to handle it, but several interviews and statements of the author: he does not want to have it taken to be honestly used. Source f.e. http://kerneltrap.org/node/5347

But things are changing, and time goes by. This is a brand new technique, and I don't know how it will progress. Sorry, but I have no better informations.
Btw. are there any issues you have dealing with udev?

Re: How to use nDevFS?

I'll say I have issues with uDev: the hotplugging only works about half the time, if that.

Anyway... It would seem that I need some bootloader option to mount nDevFS for /dev. I'm guessing this would be "ndevfs=mount"... Not sure though.

Also, do I need any changes to rc.sysinit? And does nDevFS need the devfsd package?
