Canon Pixma iP4950 print resolution problem

So I was able to install drivers from gutenprint, but this drivers have only 600*600 DPI resolution.

iP4900 series have experimental support in gutenprint (Didn't check that before buying) but I was
hopping that there si some manual way to add more resolution.

I tried to manually add resolution to ppd files in /etc/cups/ppd but without success.

There are also official drivers [1] in rpm package which I also installed but these drives have even
less features and no color printing at all

Is there any hope for this printer to get better support for color printing?
Should I try to ask upstream (gutenprint mailing list)?
