Can't boot unless pata_acpi is blacklisted

(This is less of a support request than an attempt to document a weird behavior in case someone else is having the same problem. I would file a bug report if I knew what to file a bug report against. Sorry if this is the wrong place for such.)

I upgraded my kernel yesterday for the first time in a month (I leave linux, linux-headers, nvidia, nvidia-utils in IgnorePkg, avoid rebooting, and upgrade everything else regularly). Upon rebooting, I got a stack trace, then a hang while running the [uresume] hook, or (if uresume was disabled in initramfs) a message saying my root filesystem couldn't be found. I chrooted and ran mkinitcpio, and when that didn't help, downgraded linux, linux-headers, and systemd to the versions I had installed a month ago when I last rebooted -- respectively, 3.6.3-1, 3.6.3-1, and 195-2 -- and recreated the initramfs. This didn't help either.

The only thing that did help was adding module.blacklist=pata_acpi to my kernel command line, which is odd, because I've never had to do this before. This fix continued to work after upgrading systemd and the kernel to their current versions (196 and 3.6.8, respectively).

Some info: this occurred on a macbook pro 7,1. I don't think I did anything at all admin-y since last rebooting.

(I added ata_piix and sd_mod to MODULES based on the advice of some other thread, but that didn't do anything.) At first I thought it was a driver/kernel bug, but am confused because it's showing up in 3.6.3, which booted fine before.

The only vaguely related recent thing I found was this but I don't think jmicron has anything to do with my hardware.
