Colorful Vim color scheme with 256 color terminal support.
Designed for high readability and optimal visibility of every element, and to be eye comfortable as well.

@Šaran: Depending on the popularity of the Vim theme, perhaps, I may be working on an Xresources file in future. Unfortunately I'm very busy for now. I would like to test it with the major terminal applications to ensure there aren't big contrast inconsistencies, rather than just translating the Vim theme to an Xresources file or a 16 color palette.

Nice! 2 small requests:

1. Any chance of having a fold highlighted in a slightly different shade of gray so it's visible (sort of like zenburn)
2. The statusbar still shows up as plain black with bright white letters. Can that match the rest of the theme?

I like it - reminds me of Easter candy/jelly beans. Tell me, what is the font you are showing in the screenshot? Also, +1 for firecat's two suggestions.

Font is Consolas, however in order to achieve good rendering, you should play a bit with autohint and hintstyle properties in your .fonts.conf file. Anyway, if you don't use it already, I'd rather suggest the excellent DejaVu Sans Mono.

Your suggestions are not wrong. there will be improvements soon.

Also wanted to 2nd the request for an Xresources theme when you have time. My current terminal colors only work well with a plain black background...not the dark-ish gray of your vim theme Using it today and I like it alot!

Edit: also tried out zenburn and solarized again today....I like yours better! They use a bit too light of a dark background for my taste.

Take a look at the updated version. There shouldn't be problems with terminals. I've tested it in Konsole with default stettings.

@firecat53: The background in terminal is a different shade of dark gray... and this is normal because of the 256 color limitation... however it shouldn't be black (#000000).

The statusbar contrast now matches the rest of the theme, and folding is more visible.
This should be quite definitive, let me know if you like it better!

Sorry, I just meant that my own default terminal colors don't look good with the lighter gray background you use for the vim theme, so I'd love to have a complete terminal theme based on your vim colors!

I'm sorry, I totally messed up what I wanted to say.

I recently switched to a custom color scheme for urxvt which looks great, except when using Vim. More specifically, when using vimdiff some of the background "diff" colors are the same color as the text, which means there's text in files that I can't see. (Not good!) Using a nice custom color scheme for Vim (like this one) has fixed my problem.

Thanks zeis! I rated kolor as "Life Changing" on its www.vim.org page. I use a dark, but not quite black background with a pseudo transparent terminal, so I shanged the relevent settings to none. Still looks great!

Is this an expected behavior with the background color? Notice the difference between the vim background where the text is and the bottom half of the page after the end of the file.

It should be a wanted effect. Many schemes have it and many others not... to me that's not very determining, and sure enough the 1.0.0 version didn't have it.
Maybe I'm going to remove it again. I'd also like to hear other comments.

@firecat53, if you want to change it, the text area is the "Normal ctermbg=" setting and the non-text are is (aptly named) "NonText ctermbg=". They are lines 115 and 117 in zeis's config.

Ah, I see how it works now. I haven't tried any vim themes since I set mine up several years ago, so I haven't seen that effect before.

Hmmmm....I think I could get used to it...is there a usability reason why people like it, or is it just a visual effect? I could probably go either way I think, but I've only used this for a couple of days now

I removed it because I use a dark background with pseudo transparency with urxvt. It is not black but certainly close, and it still looks great.

@firecat53, I think that the .Xresources file does not really matter because the config is specifying the exact one of 256 available colors that the terminal offers (I am not sure about this). But if you use gvim it certainly should not matter because it sepcifies the exact hex color. Also, i do not use the defferent colors for Normal and NonText because there are the tildas to mark where the lines stop, and this is enough for me personally.

Edit: If you use zsh, you can use this to see all the colors:
