I ran a pacman -Syu to upgrade my ESXi VM and since then the tools no longer start. Any ideas?

Is open-vm-tools-modules installed? Have you rebooted after the last kernel upgrade? If so, can the module be found in /lib/modules/?
It wasn't installed no. I tried to install it earlier but it still didn't work after so I uninstalled it again.
I took your advice though and did the install then rebooted. I am still seeing the same error though. I do typically reboot after doing my weekly updates.
I can see a "/lib/modules/3.6.8-1-ARCH/extramodules/vmxnet.ko.gz". Does that count?
Only making sure that the basics were covered. I just checked and you're right, the vmsync module is not installed by the open-vm-tools-modules package. No idea if it has been deprecated or is just missing.
Anyway, you probably have it listed in the VM_MODULES array of the /etc/conf.d/open-vm-tools file, and the init script fails trying to load it. Simply removing it from the list should solve the problem.
Or, if you don't need any of the modules, just comment the VM_MODULES line and remove the open-vm-tools-modules package.
On a side note, switching to pure systemd would also solve the issue, as it doesn't mind the /etc/conf.d/open-vm-tools file.
Sorry for the late reply. That worked. I deleted vmsync from the modules conf which fixed the issue. I had to reboot though for it to take affect which is odd.
It seems installing the open-vm-tools-modules is a requirement as when I uninstalled it the service moaned about other modules not existing. Reinstalling fixed the modules finally fixed it.
I don't use Arch all that often. The whole systemd doesn't make too much sense to me. I only look at errors when I do an upgrade and something breaks. I followed the article about migration to fix errors but I don't have a clue what was being done.
Anyway, thanks for the help you fixed my issue.
