Changing from openjdk to jre

I am new to Arch and this is my first post.  I formerly used kubuntu.  I am having trouble with the simple command "yaourt -S jre".  I get the following output:

looking for inter-conflicts...
:: jre and jre7-openjdk are in conflict (java-runtime). Remove jre7-openjdk? [y/N] y
:: jre and jre7-openjdk-headless are in conflict (java-runtime-headless). Remove jre7-openjdk-headless? [y/N] y
:: jre and icedtea-web-java7 are in conflict (java-web-start). Remove icedtea-web-java7? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: jdk7-openjdk: requires jre7-openjdk

If I try to remove jre7-openjdk, I get

% sudo pacman -Rns jdk7-openjdk                                                                                                                              1 \3
checking dependencies...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: libreoffice-sdk: requires java-environment

How can I upgrade java in place without uninstalling the libreoffice-sdk?  If the jre package "offers" java-environment, then surely this is possible.

pacman -Rd openjdk

or

pacman -Rdd opendjdk

I did this and it seems to have worked:

% sudo pacman -Rdd jre7-openjdk
...
% yaourt -S jre
...

Why do you want jre instead of openjdk? Also, if you're new to Arch, why are you using yaourt?

I am also thinking of moving to jre because the package jre7-openjdk contains a bug that really annoys me. The keyboard input is somehow not transferred to certain programs like jdownloader or freemind.
Why shouldn't he be using yaourt? It is a nice program to install packages from the AUR.

I thought that was what fixed my issues in the past with sites like omg ubuntu in chrome (which renders the drop-down menus and context menus underneath the site content).  Another good example is the rendering issues on feedly where the tab won't re-draw until I click on another tab and then back again.  But alas, the change to jre didn't fix that issue.  I thought that was what I did in my ubuntu install to fix that problem, but apparently not.

As for yaourt, I use it for the AUR.  There were a few packages I could only find there.

New to Arch means new to the AUR - you shouldn't use any aur helper until you are thoroughly familiar with the underlying build/install process.

No doubt you will ignore that advice, like all the other noobs....

I think those issues have nothing at all to do with Java.

Why do you want jre instead of openjdk?

Reasons to use oracle jre instead of openjdk?
1. Because JetBrains IDEs require oracle jre.
2. Because tomcat used to freeze after some days under openjdk.
3. Perfomance. I don't know if this has changed, but sun jvm used to be faster.

New to Arch means new to the AUR - you shouldn't use any aur helper until you are thoroughly familiar with the underlying build/install process

I used to use yaourt right from the beginning.

Taken from the beginnersguide....one's invited to use it. And yaourt is right on the corner isn't it ? It's the easy way, and convenience is a human reflex, I guess...

No, just realistic.

Taken from the beginnersguide....

Wrong again - the latest version of the guide doesn't refer to the AUR at all.
