What happened to xf86-video-unichrome?

During a recent upgrade, I wasn't able to install xf86-video-unichrome because the package disappeared.  This forced me to move to xf86-video-openchrome, which is better in many ways, except stability on my system.

I'm running on a K8M800 board, with Via graphics.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M800/K8N800/K8N800A [S3 UniChrome Pro] (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Biostar Microtech Int'l Corp Device 1203
Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
	Status: Cap+ 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
	Latency: 32 (500ns min)
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 16
	Region 0: Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
	Region 1: Memory at f4000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at f5000000 [disabled] [size=64K]
	Capabilities: <access denied>
	Kernel driver in use: viafb

Whenever switching between X and the VCs, the display throws a ton of artifacts and will not update or show me the consoles.  It will even show an old X session before refresh when starting up X after a reboot.  Since I don't use a login manager, I'm kind of stuck and am forced to hard reset my system every day.

Is there another way to use the unichrome video drivers, or maybe potential solutions to my problem?

Thanks.

Maybe try the git version and see if its more stable?

No such luck with the git version.  Still being forced to reboot every day because the screen won't properly refresh when going from X back to the VCs.

I'm open to wild guesses at this point.  Unichrome worked flawlessly(if not a bit uglier) before.
