Catalyst is weirdly slow

Hello. I've recently returned to Arch Linux after a brief jump to Xubuntu. I've noticed now that the catalyst driver is much slower here in Arch than Ubuntu. Why is that? Is it because of this DKMS thing?
It's not so bad in games, but the UI and video playback lags very much, it looks like sub-15 frames per second or something. I switched to software rendering in XBMC and MPlayer, but it didn't solve the problem.

Should I switch to the unofficial catalyst repository? Or any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Catalyst is weirdly slow

Since no one answered, I decided to switch to the Catalyst driver from the unofficial repository, it was more up to date (12.9 vs 12.11) and it had more packages including Xvba which probably would've helped with video playback. But now my system is broken. When I boot I don't even get a console login-screen, which I thought I would get if it didn't work My screens don't even get a signal, and just stands there with blinking LEDs like the PC is off or suspended. This is bad.
