Misaligned Text in Terminator on AwesomeWM

I'm trying to use the Terminator console with the Awesome window manager.  I'm getting this strange error where all of the text in the terminal is misaligned.  Some letters are very far apart where there is no space, and some letters are colliding into each other.  This is not happening at all outside of Terminator.  An image of my problem is below.  It is especially bad in the highlighted area.  Thanks for any help.

It looks as if you are not using a monospace font in Terminator. Change that and report back if the the issue persists.
