Choppy video playback with compositing WMs

Hello fellow archers

I'm getting choppy video playback with Gnome, KDE. I get these hiccups every few seconds.

Any help is appreciated

Re: Choppy video playback with compositing WMs

I  think I've narrowed down the issue to Kwin and Clutter, because I get smooth video playback with xfce4wm and compiz under XFCE4.

I'm running a Intel integrated graphics card, which could be related. I seem to recall having smooth video under Gnome 3, so I don't really know.

Re: Choppy video playback with compositing WMs

I believe I now know what the issue is.

With my Intel integrated graphics card, my system can't handle compositing and video playback at the same time

It's a shame really. Guess I have to live with this for now.

Luckly KDE/kwin has a feature to disable effects on fullscreen apps. Don't know any function like this on Gnome.

This also explains why I get smooth video playback with Xfce with compositing off.
