[SOLVED] [drm:__gen6_gt_force_wake_mt_get] *ERROR* Force wake wait

Hello,

yesterday I purchased the Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A-R4003V. I followed the installation guide in the wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AS … rime_UX31A). After some minor problems I managed to boot into the new system. The whole UEFI thing is new for me smile

After boot I get this message: "[drm:__gen6_gt_force_wake_mt_get] *ERROR* Force wake wait timed out". I have to press ENTER, then I can log in.

What is this error, how can I fix it?

Does the system still work after the error? This might be standard UEFI, i.e. SECUREBOOT, so this might be normal.

I get this error too, but for me it seems totally harmless.  I do not have ot push enter to get a login or anything, it just whizzes by before the info about fsck-ing the partitions.  It also seems to flash instantly on suspend, and then everytime I wake it appends the same error, again flashing for just a split second. Usually it is not even long enough to notice.  Though I am running off a SSD, and I do kind of remember having to see it for a second or two when I was using a SSD and HDD

Secure boot is a UEFI implementation by Microsoft, so if your laptop came with Windows 8 by default or the latest SP of Windows 7, THEN you installed Arch, this might be normal, due to this technology.

This is true. If the system still works, just ignore the error.

I have been experiencing this error since we changed to kernel 3.6, so I don't think it has anything to do with secureboot. Also I never updated my bios to include secureboot. There is an update, but when it says that the improvements and features include "nothing", I find it rather rediculous to want to install that.

Hi there,

yes the notebook came pre-installed with Windows 7 Prof.

The BIOS Version is 214 (Build date Aug 28 2012, should be the newest one).
The only "boot option" in UEFI is "Boot Option #1 Arch Linux (GRUB2)". Windows has been removed in the installation process.

The system seems to work so far, I am still setting up the function keys and so on. But every error must have its cause and I don't think it is a good idea to "ignore" errors.

Well, I hate to admit this, but you might be right. UEFI and Kernel 3.6 do NOT go together. (I checked the source.) But I think this laptop has Win7 SP1 pre-installed, so I don't know.

What service pack? I will check MS's website to see if the latest SP comes with Secure Boot. Also, DRM is Digital Rights Management, BTW. Not sure if that helps though.

The latest SP is SP1, which came out before Windows 8 and Secure Boot. SB is not a problem. So it is UEFI + Linux 3.6.7.

If this is true, you probably have Secure Boot, but if not, you do not and you might try downgrading your kernel slightly, maybe to a LTS version.

alevinearch: Please, please use the "edit" function of this forum, that makes reading the thread much better.

I have noticed the following: To fix a issue with the backlight-function-keys of the notebook I added the grub boot parameter "acpi_osi=".

I also tested "acpi_osi=Linux". With "acpi_osi=Linux" the error message disappeared! For the fix to work, I must use "acpi_osi=", that introduces the error message again. Maybe this gives a hint to somebody?

I am kind of sure that eveyone with an Intel video card that uses the i915 module gets this error, (maybe more).

The bug was introduced in kernel 3.6 my hope is that it will be fixed in 3.7

Also, it seems to be a Race Condition, because I get this error only 9/10 boots.

Note: I boot with BIOS not UEFI.

I too have not upgraded the BIOS on my laptop, because my laptop works perfectly. The new BIOS would add "Secure Boot" (but would enclude the option to Enable/Disable) The main thing that I don't like about the new BIOS from Lenovo is that it would keep the "Both Legacy/UEFI" but would remove the option "Legacy First". I fear that may add a few seconds to my boot time. Now, when a new CPU microcode is added, I'll upgrade the BIOS.

Fantastic smile I am stoked to hear this bug is fixed in 3.7 I was hoping it would be, but worried it would not. From what I understand Intel is a big contributor to Linux.
