I've searched around and have not been able to figure this out. I actually started working on HDMI audio on an older 200 series card previously. I was hoping it would work with a completely new card and build, but the problem still persists.
Using aplay it sounds and plays fine:
aplay -D plughw:1,7 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
However using VLC and I get crackling. I had a 200 series card that did the same thing on a different computer and never solved it. In Windows audio works flawlessly, I say this to show it's not a hardware or cable problem.
Anyone have any experience and a solution for this? I tried some module sound.conf settings however they don't change the output crackling or they completely remove the ability to play anything.
