Compiz Window Manager

I have tried several other window managers(eg Openbox), but experienced video tearing with all of them (on two different laptops and one desktop).
Compiz seems to be the only one I've tried which does not have this issue.
Is there any reason why standalone Compiz is not more popular?
Does no one else get problems with video tearing on Openbox etc.?
Just wondering, as It took me ages to solve the tearing problem (was even close to using Windows again for watching films).

Re: Compiz Window Manager

I use openbox and have no problems with video tearing unless compositing is enabled. I'm also using vdpau though, so that helps.
