I've been playing and it works just fine big_smile

How are you settings and performance?  Just curious.

My graphics card really sucks, it's an hd3650 512MB. The rest of the setup is fine: Q9450 (no OC), 4GB DDR2 ~1000Mhz.

I'm playing in windowed mode because it's just easier for me to toggle and do other stuff at the same time. The settings are all at low since I was experimenting with the opensource drivers before.. haven't tried to tweak it to best performance/quality. The gameplay is in average 60fps, playable for me:)

I guess there are some windows specific vars in config. You can try loading config from console after launching game.
Just save it under eg. myconfig.cfg and run "exec myconfig.cfg".

Doesn't Intel's driver support S3TC? When I try to start the TF2 beta it complains about missing extension GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc. My laptop has a i5-2557M with built-in HD 3000 graphics.

I got into the beta a few days ago also smile

Seems pretty good, only have 7 games on it atm.
I'm mainly using it to talk to people while I'm in linux working big_smile

Not given TF2 a go yet, looking forward to the day I can use linux as my main gaming OS like I used to in the quake3 days smile
Will be really nice if/when they get DOTA2 native.

That's the downside of using an old laptop with crappy 1280x800 resoultion. On my 2560x1440 monitor I would have seen every post and not just the latest. wink

Open Beta!  Downloading tf2 now!

edit:
Starting download froze steam.  Restarted and everything seems fine.

I still can't use Steam under Arch. When I try to start it, there is a SEGsomething error, and mouse cursor disappears. I don't understand anything.

i was going to try it on arch on my server with an nvidia GT210 or something crappy like that but installing nvidia and nvidia-utils results in random freezes. Had to go back to nouveau. Gonna test it on my gaming machine with an HD6850 soon in ubuntu 12.04.

I heard Portal was playable on Linux. Not available on your platform it says, for both Portal and Portal 2. Bummer.

I heard Portal was playable on Linux.

I wouldn't tend to think it'd be that hard for Valve to port the Portal games to Linux if they've already done it with TF2/L4D2, and Portal 2 is already on OS X.  I really, really hope they intend on releasing them for Linux sometime in the near future… yikes

It would indeed be epic if they released a linux port of portal smile I'd buy it a second time if that's what it would take.

Don't say things like that. In the end, one of them reads this and makes us all buy it a second time. Say something like "I would probably be generous enough to not regret having it bought the first time, if…".

Re: Looking forward to having Steam on Linux? Read this.

Does anybody know the exact release date for steam on Linux (i.e out of beta) - If I'm right I read on the web that is going to be in February though I can't confirm it since it's just speculation.

Not even valve knows. And even when valve sets a release date, they have a strong and proud history of not meeting it.
