I won't be able to play any Steam games on my Radeon HD 3600, right? So I better continue using Windows 8 for this time ... what is AMD doing ? They force me to use M$ software ...

Do you mean Steam or Valve games? You should be able to play many of the Steam games, but not any of the Valve games.

@nob.dir,
Note that, it's embedded graphics drivers. Desktop graphics driver version is still 12.10. See AMT/ATI driver page. . .

Same here. Had to roll back to 3.6.

I am unclear why this is hit-or-miss. I'm using the repo linux-ck-ivybridge package on my workstation and am building this without errors.

If you are using catalyst-dkms, adding this patch helps:
http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/files/a … -3.7.patch
[Edit]
catalyst-dkms 12.11-3 includes this patch.

I'use ck-nehalem if it could help …

I'm not familiar with this, but I think, in there is a pxp-package for it (in violo's repo). Don't know, if it works or not.

catalyst-generator supports 3.7 kernel since 2 months ^^
with such support i've also updated:
AUR: catalyst catalyst-daemon catalyst-hook catalyst-test catalyst-total catalyst-total-pxp catalyst-total-hd234k
repo: [catalyst] - catalyst-daemon catalyst-hook
[catalyst-hd234k] - catalyst-daemon catalyst-generator catalyst-hook

There is a new AMD-Steam/Linux-forum. Maybe worth a look.

Dunno how often AMD devs watch this forum, but hopefully this helps.

What is the status of gallium 3D?

What is the status of gallium 3D?
Gallium3D alone or radeon driver included? Because the radeon driver will get really many new features in kernel 3.8 and some of them might be really performance pushing. Might be really interesting.

Any links on that? Would be interesting to read about and perhaps reason enough to try opensource again!

Hey guys, using Catalyst-dkms from Community-testing and for the past few versions I've had a watermark as in the attached image.
I have a 5000 series card, but for some reason, it's not recognizing it properly.
I'm also having overheating issues when using Steam.

Whatever will give me better performance on my aging x1200. Gallium3D with Radeon makes compositing fly. Otherwise, it's software rendering only and slow.

I have a powerXpress combo on my laptop (integrated 4200, dedicated 5400), the laptop does not have a bios option to disable the integrated - is there any way that I could get the new drivers to work with the card? I assume some fiddling with xorg.conf would work maybe? I would prefer not to use the legacy drivers - and I rarely use the integrated gpu.

Hi, I've been trying to get the closed source driver to work on an old laptop with the 3200 HD graphics.
I have everything setup properly (via the wiki & using Vi0L0's repository) and everything works, however it seems as if I'm having a performance issue.
If I try to cat a large text file in terminal it outputs it slower than the open source driver (I had tried those first, but realized there was no hardware video acceleration). It prints a line, then pauses for about 100ms then prints the next line. This only happens after the cursor reaches the very bottom of the screen.
Is this slow 'scrolling' expected on the closed source drivers?
Speaking of scrolling, gui (gtk/qt) apps also have more 'jumpier' scrolling. Is this expected as well?
Any info is appreciated, Thanks.

Did you install the Catalyst or the Catalyst-legacy driver?

linux 3.8 support:
I've just added patch for 3.8 rc1 kernel into catalyst-generator @ AUR and catalyst-total 12.11 beta 11 @ http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/tarball … src.tar.gz
I had not much time to work on this patch - less than 1 hour... it's compiling and looks like working fine, but i'm unable to perform more tests over it because i have to go to my family.
Patch is available here
And it's working also for: 3.8 rc2 , 3.8 rc3
Latelly i was working on amdstream / AMD APP SDK 2.8
Since this version AppProfiler is a separate piece of software (but i didn't decide to remove it from main package atm)
Also from now on AMD's decided to put some aparapi samples into sdk package, so we need to have aparapi package installed before installing SDK.
Aparapi is AMD's API for data parallel Java and its using OpenCL.
In the future we can remove aparapi from AMD's makefile and create something like amdstream-noaparapi.
With SDk 2.8 AMD has also released nice new gui tool called CodeXL.
Making a package for it is rather trivial, but i have no time for it now . I will continue when i'm back
You can download PKGBUILDs of amdstream 2.8 and aparapi here
I'm not a dev and ill appreciate if someone could look at it with pro eye and say if it's working fine :>
Also it's possible that 3.7 kernel will land to [core] when i will be afk and so i won't be able to perform update of catalyst package on the repo...
Hope to return on friday, 28.12.2012.
Marry Christmas!
