Re: The linux-pf thread; BFS/CK, TuxOnIce, BFQ, AUFS3

I build my own kernel with a PKGBUILD based on yours, and that's why I was pointing some things in it... Here, I don't have any missing headers, and I use basically your version with my patch (I had also built your kernel with it, and it had everything needed)

Anyway, it seems that nobody's interested in aufs, so I suggest you drop it as it's also availiable as a separate package in the AUR. As it is, it's not possible to build aufs-util (at least not here...)

nous: Did you do anything else than apply my patch?

No, just that. That "make [...] headers_install" command installed and then deleted most of the includes. I don't know why and I don't have the time to investigate. In the latest linux-pf I completely removed it though, until I find the time to figure out the right way to inject aufs_type.h.

Re: The linux-pf thread; BFS/CK, TuxOnIce, BFQ, AUFS3

I see that pf merged the unofficial bfs into the latest patchset.  I am toying with the idea of doing the same for linux-ck.  Anyone have some experiences to share about it?

EDIT: also, is it clear to anyone from where the unofficial patchset originated???  Is it:

I take it you're using the pfkernel repo. If that's the case,  then you must have caught it in between compiling and updating. You should try again and also make sure you use the corresponding optimization in both linux-pf and nvidia-pf, if any (e.g. linux-pf-k8 and nvidia-pf-k8).

Re: The linux-pf thread; BFS/CK, TuxOnIce, BFQ, AUFS3

Unfortunately, trying to intall nvidia-pf once again did not help. What is more to install nvidia-pf I needed to downgrade nvidia-utils to version 304.51 (which is also the version of my currently installed nvidia-pf). I use linux-pf 3.6.3-1.

I would investigate, but nvidia-pf got updated to 304.60, so I'm rebuilding the repo. Stay tuned.

With hindsight, this thread would have been a much better place to post my problem: LVM no volumes found, lvmwait doesn't work (I think it's a noop now anyway).

What should I do?

Is this your first attempt to boot encrypted LVM with linux-pf? If not, did it work with a previous version?

Have you updated the HOOKS (esp. block) in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf?

Boot with the default ARCH kernel and lsmod to show all related modules, then see if they actually exist in /usr/lib/modules/linux-3.6-pf; then add them into the MODULES array of /etc/mkinitcpio.conf. Re-run mkinitcpio -p linux-pf.

You shouldn't need different grub parameters, apart from the -pf part.

Re: The linux-pf thread; BFS/CK, TuxOnIce, BFQ, AUFS3

After updating to mkinitcpio-0.12.0-1 and replacing the pata, sata and scsi HOOKS with block, resuming from hibernation results to a black screen with a frozen underline cursor immediately after the resume hook is run. Obviously, no logs are recorded to help investigate. Any other victims out there? Any other ideas before I start boot debugging?

Run "echo 3 >| /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches" before hibernating, in case it panics because of excess data compared to swap[file].

Re: The linux-pf thread; BFS/CK, TuxOnIce, BFQ, AUFS3

That results in the same panic, strangely enough.  It's a null pointer dereference in drop_pagecache_sb; I probably should have mentioned that before.

Seems like pfkernel.db hasn't been updated in a couple of days, but the packages have. At least for x86_64 it is from the 20th (and the packages from the 21st) and for i686 it is from the 6th.

There's always a delay in updates between the AUR and the repo, especially on minor kernel version bumps (3.6 to 3.7). Should be OK now.

Hi nous,

latest kernel does not include aufs (3.7.1).
The previous one I had 3.6.11 was fine.
Is there any reason?

Thanks!

Aufs wasn't ported to 3.7 at the time the binaries were built. The check is automagic; you can try building linux-pf and see the relative message, just before the patches are applied.

Apologies for the late reply, I must have somehow missed the notification. Although I can't remember what I did, I've been able to boot just fine, and have been using pf, however I have a different issue now: when I try to upgrade nvidia-pf, I get the 'Unable to determine target kernel version' error.

pacman -Q linux-pf linux-pf-headers; uname-r
linux-pf 3.7.1-2
linux-pf-headers 3.7.1-2
3.7-pf

When I asked in IRC, they told me there's a problem with the headers, but I wasn't able to resolve the issue in the end.

Re: The linux-pf thread; BFS/CK, TuxOnIce, BFQ, AUFS3

RussianKid: 3.7 is missing /usr/src/linux-3.7-pf/include/linux/version.h, which the nvidia installer uses to determine the kernel version.

% cat /usr/lib/modules/3.6-pf/build/include/linux/version.h
 #define LINUX_VERSION_CODE 198144
 #define KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) (((a) << 16) + ((b) << 8) + (c))
 % cat /usr/lib/modules/3.7-pf/build/include/linux/version.h
cat: /usr/lib/modules/3.7-pf/build/include/linux/version.h: No such file or directory
 % cat /usr/lib/modules/3.7.0-1-ARCH/build/include/linux/version.h
cat: /usr/lib/modules/3.7.0-1-ARCH/build/include/linux/version.h: No such file or directory

There are 3 ways to work around that, until NVidia fixes the installer:
  1. Copy version.h from linux-pf-headers-3.6 to /usr/src/linux-3.7-pf/include/linux/
  2. Compile linux-pf with a 3-digit version number, you are provided with that option during makepkg
  3. Use the precompiled nvidia module from my repo

gee: The kernel config provides the aufs options; if the patch exists it will compile it, otherwise will just skip it. Just cool smile
