Can not stream from HD PVR with MPlayer pvr-option

I get this message when I try to watch TV. What am I doing wrong?

It appears to be something with the resolution. My TV box is set to 1080i and I can use VLC with pvr-option to watch TV. I can use cat /dev/video0 to capture stream and I can use mplayer /dev/video0 to watch it live. Why not the mplayer pvr:// command?
