WPA Authentication/Association Failed

Hi, I just installed the newest Arch last night. During installation my internet was fine and even for a little bit after the install. Now, when I try to connect to Wi-Fi that is WPA encrypted, I get one of several errors. Sometimes it says "WPA Authentication/Association Failed", other times something like "DHCP IP lease attempt failed". I have done a lot of research and tried a bunch of things so far such as disabling ipv6 and replacing wpa_supplicant 1.1 with wpa_supplicant 0.7.3. When i replaced wpa_supplicant, I could connect to my WPA network, but the internet is so slow its unusable and it stops working after a minute or so. It seems like i can connect fine to an open network because im on an unencrypted hotspot right now. Im guessing this is a bug with something in wpa_supplicant. Heres a few outputs.

As you can see, the drivers for the intel and realtek chip are both loaded so i dont think the problem lies there. If there are any more outputs you need just let me know.  Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.
One thing i forgot to add earlier is that I am dual booting Arch alongside Windows 8 and everything works fine in Windows. By everything i mean the wireless.

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

The commands you use with the exact error messages that each returns would be helpful.  Also please check the stickied threads to learn about using [ code ] tags for the output of commands.

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

I dont know what you mean by [ code ] tags. I looked through the stickies. I should have put the drivers list in a pastebin file, sorry about that.  Heres the commands i used and the outputs:

http://pastebin.com/vYxaqWrU

what is going there is that i was connected to 'T-Mobile G2x' (the unsecure network). I disconnected from T-mobile and conencted to ImFapping (WPA). The first ping i sent showed everything working fine, then just like i said before, after a few minutes a second ping says im disconnected.

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

What have you tried from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network and/or https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless?

Can you connect manually? (ie without using wifi-menu)

I have 2 cards. It looks like the realtek (r8169) is for eth0 and the intel (iwlwifi) is for wlan0. During my research i saw someone say that there was a problem with the r8169 driver, but i dont know if this applies to me since wlan0 is on iwlwifi. Ill see if i can connect manually now and look at the other page. Thanks

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

The realtek issue (if it is still an issue) shouldn't affect wifi. (You might have problems if you try to connect via two interfaces at the same time but I'm assuming you are not doing that i.e. the machine is not plugged into the wired network when you try to connect wirelessly.)

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

No, im not trying to do that. I installed wicd and it said to add wicd to daemons in /etc/rc.conf but i dont have that file. Im pretty sure they just did away with /etc/rc.conf though and its not causing any problems. i just dont know where they moved it to.
Heres my kernel version:

I think im going to make my network open and see if that fixes the problem. if it does, then i know its something in wpa_supplicant

If you installed wicd, you should be using wicd to connect

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

now im using wicd-gtk to connect to networks. I changed my network from wpa to open and it still doesnt work. in wicd, it cant obtain an ip address. And this is what wifi-menu gives:

[root@arch spencerr]# wifi-menu

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

If you are using wicd you MUST disable all other network daemons

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

the problem is solved. There is something wrong with the new wpa_supplicant.conf file which makes it so you cant connect to wpa for whatever reason. To fix this, install wicd (and wicd-gtk). Im not certain, but i dont think wicd uses wpa_supplicant.conf to connect. If it does, then the problem lies not in wpa_supplicant.conf but in netcfg. Thanks to everyone who helped.

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

It is at least important that wicd is not also trying to connect. If you have more than one tool trying to manage the connection at the same time, that will cause problems.

Assuming all the steps up to the one you showed worked and assuming that nothing else is trying to manage the interface, your configuration file for wpa_supplicant may need some attention?

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

UPDATE: NOT SOLVED! when i switched to WPA it was working for a little bit but now it wont stay connected for more than a few seconds. I made it an open network again and that wont stay connected either. The hotspot from my phone works fine so now im thinking theres just info/settings about my network saved somewhere that are preventing me from connecting. Wicd doesnt stay connected and earlier when i switched to an open network and ran wifi-menu, it kept giving me the "DHCP IP lease attempt failed" error.

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

You can delete wpa_supplicant.conf, then recreate just what you need in it with wpa_passphrase.  This, along with following the manual connection steps in  the wiki and then showing the output/result of each of those steps should help clarify the issue.  You've been asked for this a few times now, but you're only giving bits and pieces of information, while rapidly cycling through a variety of different network management tools.  This make it very difficult to help.  Go one step at a time: disable *all* network manager tools (netcfg, wicd, networkmanager, wifimenu, etc, etc) and go through *all* of the manual connection steps.

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

I'm also having issues with wifi on my X220.
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000

Currently, I'm using Gnome NetworkManager.
wpa_supplicant and wicd are disabled.
Ethernet works perfectly, but wifi connects sometimes, but disconnects intermittently and then reconnects.

The dhcpcd service always fails despite restarting it, sometimes immediately, sometimes after trying to connect via wifi.

dhcpcd.service - dhcpcd on all interfaces

When I had NetworkManager and wpa_supplicant running at the same time, neither worked.
When I had only wpa_supplicant, I could connect fine with wifi-menu.

(As I'm typing now, it's been up for a while, but I suspect it won't be pretty soon.)

Edit again:
I noticed that the wpa_supplicant service keeps starting, even though I disabled it.
Using ip link to reset wlan0 seems to fix everything for the time being (using NetworkManager).

ip link set wlan0 down
ip link set wlan0 up

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

I am using the newest Intel AC-7260 wireless card, I am suffering the same problem that when connect to WPA-EAP network, the network will disconnect intermitently.

Re: WPA Authentication/Association Failed

You should probably start a new thread as this one is rather old. When you do so, please include enough information about the issue for people to stand some chance of helping you. What have you discovered? What have you tried? How are you connecting? journal/logs? Etc. etc.
