Browser Freezes after Pulse 2 -> 3 Update

I use SPDIF digital outputs from my sound card to my stereo. When I open chrome, it freezes every few seconds, especially when I try to type. During freezes, I here the stereo clicking on and off, which happens when the digital audio turns on. So I suspect this is related to the recent pulseaudio upgrade to version 3.0. Audio does not work in my browser also.

Any idea how to troubleshoot this?

Of course, after poking at this thing for a long time without luck, I found a solution immediately after posting this. Turns out the wrong output devices were selected after the upgrade. After correcting that, audio is working, and the freezes are gone. I still don't understand why freezes occurred at all, but whatever.
