Re: A new look for the forums (yet another chance to contribute)

Dibble, I just noticed your request in the forum buttons thread, and I can work on converting the buttons over to "tabs" sometime in the next couple of days...

I might as well mention that Judd sent me a message a few days ago with a proposal to work on the branding of all of the inter-related Arch sites by developing new graphic headers that could uniquely identify the sites, but also tie them together.  It's been a crazy week for me, but I plan on devoting some time later on next week to fiddle around with some ideas to move toward that goal.

LudoTheGreat, I really like where you're going with those screenshots...and I definitely think that now would be a great time to start customizing the forums to set them apart from the basic phpBB defaults.  I think what Ubuntu did with theirs looks great!

The buttons can easily be replaces with tabs.

This is much better.

Ah-ha!  Why does he not tell me that too :?: lol

LudoTheGreat, great work again!  That's pretty much what I had in mind.

Seeing as a unified look is now on the agenda I think we best leave it in the capable hands of the Judd to srt out and guide.  I think it's a given that dog will be heavily involved and I hope Ludo will too.  Thanks for the mock ups, Ludo, that definitely shows the kind of thing we could have instead smile

Re: A new look for the forums (yet another chance to contribute)

Well hey, those look rather nice. Maybe I will play too when I get home. At the moment, I'm on vacation far far away from my own computer, but I'll keep thinking about this. If I think I can take the time to do anything, I'll throw a mockup link here in a about a week. smile

Dude I so dig that my vote goest that. I think that would help promote the other web things of archlinux.

And why not use the frame thing on the main archlinux page if you want to go for look like that.

Are you going to offer a "classic" theme for people who like it how it already is? (I think the board looks great already IMHO)

I like the idea of xerverius which already puts into practice what Judd wants... one header for all pages... smile

Nice!

Re: A new look for the forums (yet another chance to contribute)

Maybe i'll polish it a bit tonight, personally i think some some icons in the tabs would be nice. Simply because icons are quicker to find and it looks fancier.

The one header idea is easy so navigate through a large website (Apple wink) and 1 style for the entire website looks professional.

Why don't we use both of them but as seperate themes. And then there can be a vote on which one to use as the default one for new users and for the guest accounts. smile

It was originally an announcement - it will get moved in time.  What do you think we do here?
