Brother DCP-165c printer install [solved]

Hi there,

I've been Googling this for a while and have come up blank. I'm a new Arch Linux user, but not a new Linux user. I previously had my Brother DCP-165C printer installed on Ubuntu and shared via CUPS. I have recently moved to Arch Linux and have tried to do the same.

I found the AUR page for the printer drivers: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=28898, and built the package according to the instructions and installed with pacman. When it comes to installing the printer, however I fail. If I try to install via System Settings | Printers in GNOME, when I try to add the printer, the dialog box closes without installing the printer. It makes no difference whether I am logged in as root or a regular user. If I try to install via CUPS, I cannot locate the PPD file which I assume would normally be created as part of the regular install.

What other steps should I be taking after making and installing the dcp165c 1.1.2-2 package to get it installed?

Getting it shared on the network is not the immediate priority, I would be happy to be able to install and print locally for the moment!

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Re: Brother DCP-165c printer install [solved]

The answer was pretty obvious: run the script installed at /usr/local/Brother/Printer/dcp165c/cupswrapper/cupswrapperdcp165c

Just goes to show that sometimes the answer is right in front of you.

The answer (although for a different model) was here:
