Shotwell UI not responding.

Gnome System up to date, gstreamer and gst plugins installed, all of them, gphoto2, libgphoto2 installed.

Problem: for about more than a couple of weeks I notice that 1) shotwell did not start automatically when I connect my camera (check under system settings to do so) when before worked. 2) the UI hangs at "importing" from camera or while updating the library, I have tried with different files (photos and videos) with the same result, the  window still responds though, I can easily close it with out problems, and the photos and videos Actually get imported correctly, but the whole Shotwell UI is unusable, the terminal give me nothing other than the gstreamer-critical complaints.

I wonder if any body has the same problem, I notice that gphoto2 is outdated in the repos, but after installing the latest from source nothing change. any comment is much appreciated.

I have the same problem, I've rebuilt shotwell-git with all the conditional options compiled in and get the following log, I don't understand why I'm not getting more output after comiling with

Re: Shotwell UI not responding.

I deleted the folders in

~/.cache/shotwell

and

~/.local/share/shotwell

in order to force shotwell to make a complete scan of the Pictures folder.

I also did the steps explained in the FAQ.

I found that shotwell import very few photos (40 of more than 4,000) and the one that imported appeared in the log as:

L 1592 2012-11-29 17:48:18 [DBG] BatchImport.vala:1827: Importing /home/miguel/Imágenes/2007/06/11/P6100028.JPG

The funny thing is that shotwell did not import photos in the same folder taken with the same camera at the same day hmm

Re: Shotwell UI not responding.

I don't know if my problem with shotwell is the same, but I had problems importing directories, or the watch directory would always fail, just stopped and nothing more. Of course after I tried all the other simular apps, and returned to shotwell, as I like that the best.

My fix has been to ensure that only images are in the directores, I used gThumb to move and seperate images from videos, now the importing/updating works. I never noticed this problem on the Ubuntu version of shotwell. I know this isn't really a fix, i did rebuild with debuging, run shotwell with the debuging options turned and used gdb etc, but didn't get any useful output to indicate anything

If this is any help, otherwise sorry.

[edit]
Seems this thread, and the patch and bug report might be related for my problem, just wanted to tie the threads together

Re: Shotwell UI not responding.

I have this same problem. I try import a directory with JPG and AVI files. It seems, those AVI files make shotwell import to freeze.

Looks like, the version 0.13.1-4 fixed the problem.

Re: Shotwell UI not responding.

Not sure that 0.13.1-4 fixs for me. Just moved a video file into the watched Pictures dir, and its been scanning with no disk activity for 20 minutes so far. I'll edit this if it starts working.

Re: Shotwell UI not responding.

Well, after some time not trying shotwell and seeing there were a new version in repositories, I gave it a try.

So, this new version works fine as expected. Everything (photos and videos) were imported.

I am happy again.

Re: Shotwell UI not responding.

mmf1902 what kind of video file are you importing or placing in the watched folder of shotwell, and it working ?

I've tried it again, with a mp4 file from camera and it still just hangs at that file, I have the latest version.

Re: Shotwell UI not responding.

Dude-man. Sorry the late answer...

I mostly have AVI files but I made a test with a QUICKTIME (MOV) file and shotwell imported successfully.

The only problem now is that shotwell does not show video thumbnails.

Re: Shotwell UI not responding.

mmf1902, thanks

Just tried it with avi,mp4 and it also worked fine, to my suprise, but the MTS (Which I think is a mp4 package/format) that my camera makes failes... but if I rename them to mp4 that seems to be ok... but I'll have to test more with more files, when I get the time.
