not all devices are recognized by the system

Good morning.

I have XBox 360 wireless controller and a Logitech S5500 webcam. Both devices are not working after the systemstart. I've seen that the modules for this devices are not loaded at boot so I wrote 2 /etc/modules-load.d/*.conf files but the devices (with and without the conf's) are working only after I pluged them out and in.

My system is a dual boot with Win7. If I start Win7 after I had started Arch so Win7 has two unknown devices. Plug out and in and they are working. Reboot from Win7 into Win7 and the devices are known. Only Arch has this problem.

lsusb after boot:

lsusb after I connected the devices:

Someone else with problems like this? I can't find out if it is the kernel or systemd. I've tested a downgrade but with no effect.

Re: not all devices are recognized by the system

Hi skull-y,

Found my way here while following a similar problem. I'm running the archlinux-hf-2012-09-18 firmware image for the Raspberry Pi. Attached is a Vakoss 7 port USB 2.0 hub. lsusb shows my hub has the same USB ID.

[root@alarmpi ~]# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9512 Standard Microsystems Corp. LAN9500 Ethernet 10/100 Adapter
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:8187 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. USB-2.0 4-Port HUB
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 413c:1001 Dell Computer Corp. Keyboard Hub
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. USB-2.0 4-Port HUB
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 413c:2001 Dell Computer Corp. Keyboard HID Support
Bus 001 Device 009: ID 046d:c00e Logitech, Inc. M-BJ58/M-BJ69 Optical Wheel Mouse
[root@alarmpi ~]#

On my system the kernel driver was unable to properly initialize the RTL8187. Moving the device off the hub to the Pi's remaining USB got it working. I saw a post on another message board that implied that this problem may be distro specific for hubs based on this chip. If I can find it, I'll update this post.

Re: not all devices are recognized by the system

My webcam has the same problem and this is not pluged in a hub like the XBox Controller. I tried another port for the webcam but nothing happens.

Whatever I think we have the same problem it looks like the kernel has a problem or something that is needed to load the modules.

Re: not all devices are recognized by the system

@playaspec, you are aware that there is a difference between Arch Linux and Arch Linux ARM?  You would be using the latter while skull-y is using the former.  Just want to make sure you are aware...

I have the same problem on a 32bit Arch Installation. My USB Keyboard and the Microsoft MCE USB Remote are not recognised anymore. I have upgraded on Dec. 17. Last upgrade was 3 weeks before. dmesg or syslog do not print output when I (dis-)connect the devices
I have a parallel 64bit Install of Archlinux which is 4 weeks old and has never been upgraded since. There all devices work and the keyboard works in Grub too.

Comparision same Box different installs

Re: not all devices are recognized by the system

boomshalek,

Looks like USB 1.X driver uhci_hcd is not loaded.

Try loading manually with modprobe.

You were right. It was blacklisted since very long time but still loaded before the upgrade. Now somehow it followed the blacklist all of the sudden.
Thank you for pointing in that direction.
