copy photos from Camera

HI

I have few cameras {old ones and some new}. I am using USB cable to connect to PC for all.

type of old one is "mass storage", there is not any problem.

new one {canon and nikon} is mtp type.
let;s say that month ago I have not any problem to copy photos in nautilus / nemo.
I have quite big cards in cameras so did not copy photos for long time.

When I plug camera I can see it only in nautilus or in nemo.
I could see "eject" icon in bottom notification bar before that.
So drag and drop photos from camera to local hdd, copy is starting but after few files it freez.

I did discover this problem few days ago.

please, can someone help? I am not able to download photos from camera.
thank you

Re: copy photos from Camera

I can help with figuring out the problem in the drag+drop interface, but if your main goal is just to get the files transfered, can you just `cp` from a terminal?

Is this a problem with two different cameras? What's the result of:

# fdisk -l

Re: copy photos from Camera

old camera - olympus has USB with "mass storage" interface -> like USB flash disk
new camera - canon or nikon has USB with MTP -> what I know it is different aproach

fdiks -l give me a list of local hdd

after I plug canon or nikon this is in log

Re: copy photos from Camera

This mtp is new to me.  After a quick search it's now on my list of things to avoid like the plague in any new electronics.  But it seems there are solutions.  Did you see this wiki page here?

Re: copy photos from Camera

I've personally had plenty of trouble with mtp and very much dislike it. Yet another wonderful microsoft idea.

One thing to note here is that it will not show up in /dev as /dev/sdaN as sda is your local hard drive. Try comparing /dev when the camera is not connected and /dev when you've connected the camera and let it load.

Re: copy photos from Camera

well, I did check that wiki page, no help
I did compare dev directory and of course, there is new file /dev/bus/usb/002/020 but that not help

STRANGE is that it was working few weeks ago
I did plug camera and if was auto mounted, I did copy photos and that unmount over "eject icon" on bottom notification bar in gnome 3

looks that something with udev or with systemd or with udisks or ... is not correct

just find this post, last message is interesting
