CDROM drive not recognized

I'm having the problem that my cdrom drive is not being recognized.

dmesg | grep sr

is void. The full dmesg is here: http://pastebin.com/igsygg6b

If I do:

sudo modprobe sr_mod

there are no changes.

As far as I can see, it worked without problems some days ago:

:/usr/lib/systemd/system➤ sudo journalctl | grep DVD

Re: CDROM drive not recognized

In the some days since it worked, have you had a kernel upgrade that you have not rebooted into?

In otherwords, do `uname -a` and `pacman -Qi linux` give the same version and release numbers?

yes, there were kernel upgrades but i reboot every day, even several times.

I have to add maybe the following information:
1. I am NOT in the optical group (but it makes no difference);
2. only the hd disk is being recognized:

sudo lshw -C disk
[sudo] password for igor:
  *-disk
       description: ATA Disk
       product: WDC WD3200BEVT-2
       vendor: Western Digital
       physical id: 0.0.0
       bus info: scsi@2:0.0.0
       logical name: /dev/sda
       version: 01.0
       serial: WD-WX81AA0R7799
       size: 298GiB (320GB)
       capabilities: partitioned partitioned:dos
       configuration: ansiversion=5 sectorsize=512 signature=000746

3. ls /dev/cd* or ls /dev/sr* are void...

Re: CDROM drive not recognized

What about:

lsmod | grep -E "(sr_mod|cdrom)"

I get:

sr_mod 14824 0
cdrom 35521 1 sr_mod
scsi_mod 133434 4 sg,libata,sd_mod,sr_mod

after having loaded manually the driver sr_mod... (i dont know why this is not loaded automatically...). In any case: no change.

Re: CDROM drive not recognized

no one has any idea? Normally i don't need the cdrom drive too much, but these days I'm at my parents' home and wanted to rip my old cd collection...

Re: CDROM drive not recognized

Sorry, I expended my ideas.  The only other check I could think of is if you can boot any other OSs on that computer and see if the cdrom works.  This could test for hardware issues.

Re: CDROM drive not recognized

don't worry. Thnaks for your help. Now it "works" somehow... There is no reason: maybe the last kernel update? I did not do anything special.

But it does not work properly because I can not read really any CDs.

I will try within ubuntu in the same laptop...
