[SOLVED] Kernel panic on reboot and shutdown
I'm running arch on an older laptop and getting panics whenever I try to reboot or shutdown. I've seen advice to put the user in the power group, but this does not help. This occurs using the poweroff and reboot commands from console or X.
The machine is an older Dell Inspiron 500m, from around 2003. It has a Centrino processor. I successfully ran Arch on this machine last year with no trouble.
Running Kernel 3.6.10-1, but this problem was present on earlier kernels, since at least October.
I was trying a little distro hopping on this laptop and noticed that a lot of i686 distros won't even boot on this computer anymore because it lacked some more modern feature. I don't recall what the trouble was off the top of my head, but I could try and boot something else and read off the error if it might be relevant.

Try enabling/disabling the PCI devices. The stack trace does tell about that from its calls, particularly the sound card.

You're right, it was a PCI device. It was turns out it was the internal wireless card. That's what that ipw2100 message is referring to. That's an ancient wireless 'b' card and I use an external now. The solution for me was to disable it in BIOS.
