Has anybody managed to get network card (wired) working in Tecra A3? I can't even install packages , any suggestions?
Which is the card?
Tecra A3 is a family of notebooks, not just a single model.
Some network cards, like Marvel Yukon gigabit need a little of manual work to be initialized properly is quasi-vanilla 2.6.13 Linux kernel (but they do work if handled properly).

Yes. The network card is Marvel Yukon. Could you suggest what to do to get it working? Or maybe it would work with archck kernel? I can download and install archck from another computer so. Thanks in advance.
I also have a Marvel Yukon ethernet card, on a (surprise!) no name chinese laptop, and it was not initialized with archck (or the stock 2.6.13.X) out of the box.
For making it working, I did:
a. unloaded the kernel module ( rmmod sk98lin )
b. Downloaded the current official driver from here as the one in the vanilla 2.6.13.X kernel seems flawed. Compiling it is fairly straighforward/ easy, and you won't need the full kernel source- the included headers in the archck package are enough. The driver version I compiled and used successfully is 126.96.36.199, the current one ATM.
c. Adding "sk98lin" in the modules section of /etc/rc.conf and rebooting. Actually I did not think initially that a reboot was necessary, just some "modprobe sk8lin" and after that "/etc/rc.d/network start" , but for some odd reason the card was initialized as eth1 rather than eth0 and of course the network failed to start. After rebooting it works just fine here (as eth0).
BTW I use the archck kernel on my lappy, as the stock 2.6.13.X gives me loads of ACPI-related annoyances, many of them severe. The archck kernel works fine, its only fault is failing to autoshutdown the laptop (not a biggie...).
Let us know if it worked.

I installed kubuntu on this toshiba, pity but I had no time to play with the configuration.
Afer some time I can't bear kubuntu. Any other distro than archlinux gives me creeps. So I tried # modprobe sk98lin, but it still does not work. Tommorow I'll try downloading drivers from http://www.marvell.com/drivers/search.do. I'll report you what happened. Thanks.
It worked. Thank you indeed for your help.
One more thing, if you use hibernate you need to add sk98lin to blacklisted-modules.
