Hello.
I've this issue which I don't know how to resolve, I can't playback .mid files on Arch, I can do it on Windows XP though.
I'm using an onboard soundcard, this is the output from lshwd:
00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]|SiS7012 PCI Audio Accelerator (snd-intel8x0)
Can anyone give me any hints please?
Thanks a lot in advance.

I think you'll need to install Timidity++ to play .mid files.
pacman -S timidity++
should do that.

You most likely need to install a soundfont. Some soundfonts can be downloaded from http://www.sf2midi.com or http://www.hammersound.net (some of the soundfonts there are packed with a windows-only archiver ). You also need to edit /etc/timidity++/timidity.cfg to point to the right soundfont.
Btw, does anybody know what happened to the EAW patchset? The main site seems no longer to exist.

Hi!
I have the same problem since I am using Linux (and it seems insolvable in less than ages :-s ) ... Anyway, KDE has a program called "KMid" that demands a "MIDI Device" to be selected while actually offering me an empty list of devices I should choose from. It just offers me some "MIDI" Maps that are obvously useless without a "device".
My audio is also an onboard sound chip:
Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corp.|nForce2 Audio Codec Interface (snd-intel8x0)
...
Can anybody tell me where to get this device

Try running timidity with the following command:
timidity -iA
make sure you have timidity++ and a soundfont package installed, then just open kmid again and a device should appear on the list
