MPD over network

I'm attempting to setup a headless multimedia box to store music and movies.  But what I want is the ability to play music over the network.  I have MPD installed and configured and I can connect to it from another box.  The problem is that it connects as expected but I don't get any sound output even through it appears that it's playing.  Any ideas?

Re: MPD over network

AFAIK MPD doesn't support streamcasting to your local box (that means that music is playing on your headless multimedia box: try putting speakers on it).

if i remember correctly, this feature is being developed in the svn version of MPD

Re: MPD over network

Re: MPD over network

The audio will be played on the box running MPD.  Just put speakers on it and treat it like a stereo 8)

Re: MPD over network

Actually, I've found a better solution for what I'm looking for instead of MPD.  I really recommend giving mp3act at try.  The only downside is it doesn't support .ogg audio so it won't import about 1/3 of my music collection.
