[SOLVED] Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series with xf86-video-ati

I have an hp laptop with the following VGA Devices:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series]

I installed:

xf86-video-ati 1:7.0.0-1

When I run:

Xorg -configure

I get:

[ 8983.828] (EE)
[ 8983.829] (EE) Backtrace:

What did I tried:
Using vesa instead --> gives me a flickering screen
Using intel instead --> gives me a black screen

Somebody an idea, what I can do?

I this a PowerXpress setup? If yes, then you can use the tips here.

Re: [SOLVED] Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series with xf86-video-ati

No, its not a PowerXpress setup, just try to get the graphics work as mentioned in the installation guide.

After the ati-driver way was not successfull I tried it with the https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fglrx.
I installed the packages from the official repository.

When I run

aticonfig --initial

then I get:

Found fglrx primary device section
PowerXpress error: Cannot stat '/usr/lib/fglrx': No such file or directory
Failed to initialize libglx for discrete GPU
Using /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Saving back-up to /etc/X11/xorg.confg.fglrx-5

When I start then the X with

startx

the system hungs. On the console the command prints out until

Loading extension GLX

PowerXpress error: Cannot stat '/usr/lib/fglrx': No such file or directory

That line does suggest it's PowerXpress related, best check the wiki link in kaszak696 post.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: [SOLVED] Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series with xf86-video-ati

Ok I followed the wiki here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ca … ss_support.
I installed catalyst-utils-pxp and libgl.

Now the PowerXpress error is away, but the system still hungs.

Here is the Xorg.log

Re: [SOLVED] Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series with xf86-video-ati

Ok, looks like the intel driver is needed too.

So I installed:

pacman -S xf86-video-intel intel-dri

After this I get this Error:

Re: [SOLVED] Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series with xf86-video-ati

Yes, yes, yes finally.

Ok what have I done:

Uninstalled fglrx https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fglrx.

Then I did a system upgrade:

pacman -Syu

I think this was the point, cause I got a new kernel.

Then I installed the following packages:

xf86-video-ati xf86-video-intel xf86-video-vesa xf86-video-evdev xorg-server xorg-apps xf86-video-fbdev xterm

Then I got the X running with

startx

Re: [SOLVED] Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series with xf86-video-ati

So, which one of these drivers are you using? It can't be all four of them.

Re: [SOLVED] Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series with xf86-video-ati

Ok, I removed the packages

xf86-video-intel xf86-video-vesa xf86-video-fbdev

So its the xf86-video-ati, which is used.

Here is my Xorg.0.log
