Firefox 18 Issues with Java

Hi.

After updating Firefox seemed starting crashing at random occasions even in safe-mode. After a while I figured out it crashes only when opening sites using Java. This problem has been reported by other users but not under Archlinux as far as I know. Aside from this I am rather helpless. Any ideas?

If that problem is not related to archlinux then it will definitely be firefox. IMHO you may give another browser a try. Also as an alternative try NoScript addon and play with it a little. I don't know if that will work or not, It is the only solution came into my mind.

Open an empty tab or open Facebook.

As for other browsers I tried Midori which also crashes. I use NoScript.

Re: Firefox 18 Issues with Java

Try opening Firefox in a terminal to see if any error messages are printed out.

 2771 segmentation fault (core dumped)

Any chance to get more information from Firefox?

Which java are you using? Maybe try using jre from the AUR.

I think he meant JavaScript.  Does Facebook even use Java plugins?

Re: Firefox 18 Issues with Java

You might try downloading the official java from java.com, and unpacking into /opt, and then symlink the /jre<xxxx>/lib/<arch>/libnpjp2.so into the ~/.mozilla/plugins.

You could try the following:

pacman -S jre7-openjdk icedtea-web

Re: Firefox 18 Issues with Java

I am still lost.

So far I tried downgrading Java and Firefox but this didn't work either. At least someone seems to have solved this problem:

Edit: I should mention that this bug seems to affect Thunderbird as well.

Icedtea-web won't work with the above suggestion.  jre7-openjdk can still remain however.
