Maybe I want to try some other kernel builds (archck and mm). Do they always remove the installed one when I use pacman -Sy kernel-foo or will they be installed beside the old one?
And hurry up with kernel 2.6.14 - I need the onboard lan driver for my new motherboard I´getting these days.

Both these kernels (archck and mm) installs besides the existing kernel.
About kernel 2.6.14, in case you're not aware, it's in the [testing] repo.

I'm sure the hurry up won't get much response (feel free to grab it from testing or compile it yourself).
In response to your other question, the archck and mm kernels install alongside the stock kernel, just add multiple entries to your boot loader.

Thanks so far.
So do I have to do the entries into the lilo.conf myself or will an install script do this for me?

You have to manually add the entries to your lilo.conf. And don't forget to run lilo after modifying lilo.conf.

in the case of 2.6.14 make sure you read wiki about initrd ;-)

...twice, if not three times.

[andyrtr@workstation ~]$ uname -a

All went fine but I had to reconfigure alsa. Default initrd works good here.
So the new mainboard can come. Can´t wait to get my DualCore Opteron
