I have the same thing on P170EM. One screen works ok, two screens has problems with row-wise rendering and three screens is completely broken. Maybe it'll be better with 13.2 beta that ought to be released soon.

I thought, this is obsolete and it is now amdconfig. Also "-f" works great (amdconfig --initial -f).
That does not work for me xD. I finally manage to install the drivers (i forgot to put the repo on the top) and did aticonfig --initial and all went well..but when i reboot the pc i got a black screen now instead of tty. Any help would be apreciated thanks ^^

I decided to try updating from 12.8 to 13.1 because 12.8 wouldn't compile on the 3.7.x kernel, and I'm getting really poor 2D performance (I don't do any 3D stuff so I don't know about that). It seems the only driver I've had any luck with was 12.8; it compile[d] fine, I had backlight keys working, and it was responsive enough for drawing complex documents in Inkscape. Can I keep using 12.8, or is it just completely unsupported now?

Hopefully, this one is better than the 13.1 crap driver... -_-

Just installed 13.2 beta 3 drivers by editing the catalyst-total-pxp PKGBUILD, and unfortunately this issue persists on my P150EM w/ 7970M.

I had no time yesterday, sorry, i will try to test it later today and will put it probably to catalyst-test package.

wtb the legacy series?? is it still gonna be supported? I have been thinking about an upgrade so...one more question: is nVidia GT 520 DDR3 64bit better than Radeon HD 3650 DDR3 128bit?

A couple of posts up you could've read that there was just an update released for the Legacy drivers....
However, it wasn't much of one - so I'd suggest the nVidia card based solely on the fact that Legacy Catalyst is rubbish.

not only rubbish ... its a pain playing TF2 on this but still playable .. I was amazed .. they force me to go for Windows .. but this nVidia GT 520 is hopefully gonna give me good Linux experience
hopefully its better than Radeon HD 3650 though its only 64 bit (but seems to be better according to GPU reviews... )

ok, [catalyst-12.8] was updated, i've removed catalyst package from it, please use hook or generator instead

catalyst 13.2 beta 3
landed in catalyst-test @AUR - during quick tests i catched one X crash with it (while resizing konsole' window), maybe randomly, though it didn't happen with 13.1 at all
Also since some time i'm unable to play TF2 - it's freezing on loading - looks more like the game' bug though

Thanks for the update to catalyst-test. Hasn't really made a difference to TF2 unfortunately, as it still bugs out near water. It has fixed my corruption on switching tty though.

I don't know if it is really a freeze, TF2 in Linux takes ages to load. Also with 13.2 beta 3 TF2 is finally playable for me. Don't know about the water thing, but with 13.1, TF2 was unplayable for me.

hello.
i hope it's the right topic to post my question.
ever since upgrade of the catalyst drivers to 13.1 i am not able to use the graphics mode.
installed packages: catalyst-utils catalyst-dkms
nomodeset added to grub.cfg
fglrx module is loaded, i can see it in lsmod output
lsmod | grep fgl
fglrx 5089921 0
amd_iommu_v2 7400 1 fglrx
button 4670 1 fglrx
in the Xorg.0.log file there is (EE) no screens found
what's more interesting, xorg fails to recognize the driver. it only informs about preparing for module "ati" 3 times
[ 13.526] (II) LoadModule: "glx"
[ 13.797] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
[ 13.866] (II) Module glx: vendor="Advanced Micro Devices, Inc."
[ 13.867] compiled for 6.9.0, module version = 1.0.0
[ 13.867] Loading extension GLX
[ 13.867] (==) Matched ati as autoconfigured driver 0
[ 13.867] (==) Matched ati as autoconfigured driver 1
[ 13.867] (==) Matched ati as autoconfigured driver 2
[ 13.867] (==) Matched vesa as autoconfigured driver 3
[ 13.867] (==) Matched modesetting as autoconfigured driver 4
[ 13.867] (==) Matched fbdev as autoconfigured driver 5
aticonfig --initial creates empty file:
ls -alh /etc/X11/xorg.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 01-30 22:05 /etc/X11/xorg.conf
if it makes any difference, i'm not using the repo url provided above, just vanilla archlinux packages.
best regards,
toudi.

I've waited 11 minutes before killing it via ssh. 11 minutes is enought time to load any game from ssd 500MB/s
TF2 was working pretty well here some time ago, but since weeks it's just freezing, reinstall/redownload didn't help.
Maybe if i would be bigger fan of this game i would search more for some solution...

I vaguely remember having a similar bug when it was first released. I think it was fixed by installing a dependency, might be wrong though. Archwiki says it needs lib32-libtxc_dxtn.

Seems like the latest update broke my installation (fglrx module doesn't load). dmesg:
fglrx: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout
Gonna try to downgrade from Linux 3.7.5-1 to 3.7.4-1 and see what happens. Will be back with status update.

Are you using catalyst package from the repo? If so it could be that i will have to recompile it to work with core's 3.7.5

Oh, I thought you'd already done that! But yeah, I am. Downgrading helped, so I'll just have to wait for you to work some of that lovely magic of yours

@snufkin:
naaah, i'm not that fast . Actually I'm working only on own kernel and not running core's kernel at all - only sometimes on vm to build catalyst ;P.
I did build catalyst on 3.7.2 or 3.7.3 (don't remember such details), normally it should work with every 3.7.x kernel, but with some kernel updates it doesn't.
K, will update after work.

if TF2 stops working, try removing some files in ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/plantroon/Team Fortress 2 .. not all files .. IDK what exactly I removed last time, but I know I only left some big folders and then checked integrity of game cache ... after it the game was working ... it's buggy like a hell imo

This could be some dependency, thought it was working before. Also: catalyst doesn't need lib32-libtxc_dxtn, it's using own way to decompress textures.

It is buggy! I also did that, i even removed everything and redownload ~13GB / reinstalled - for nothing
@snufkin: ok, you may safely update now
