mplayer resizing issue

Just let the images speak:

Anyone know what causes it and how to fix it? I am using gnome-shell, mplayer with all default settings (hence xv output), ati radeon hd5850 with open source driver
What I desire is the border should be black, but not some "remaining images" from the video and the desktop at the time when it was resized, fullscreen is fine (even for video with aspect ratio different from the monitor)
Other vo doesn't seem to have this issue, but they have others

Re: mplayer resizing issue

Just to add a few pieces of information:
1. mplayer2 doesn't have the problem
2. mplayer-vaapi doesn't maintain aspect ratio even with -keepaspect option
3. The problem only occurs when the resizing is made by snapping/maximizing. Dragging a corner to resize the window won't cause the "distortion".

Re: mplayer resizing issue

I haven't experienced that with mplayer, but I'm using dwm, not gnome-shell.  Why not try another wm (or change some of the settings in gnome-shell) and see if it isn't a windows drawing problem (and thus an issue with gnome-shell)?

Also, do you know if there was an upgrade that might have coincided with the introduction of this issue?  That would also narrow the list of offenders.
