[SOLVED] ncmpcpp always showing PAUSE

first time to use mpd and ncmpcpp.
Here is my mpdconf and ncmpcppconf file. I can see playlist now, but the state is always PAUSE.
Am I missing something ? Thx a lot.

##### music visualizer #####
##
## Note: In order to make music visualizer work you'll
## need to use mpd fifo output, whose format parameter
## has to be set to 44100:16:1 for mono visualization
## or 44100:16:2 for stereo visualization. Example
## configuration (it has to be put into mpd.conf):
##
## audio_output {
##        type            "fifo"
##        name            "My FIFO"
##        path            "/tmp/mpd.fifo"
##        format          "44100:16:2"

##
## Note: Below parameter is needed for ncmpcpp

#visualizer_output_name = ""
#
##

##
## Note: You can see whether your ncmpcpp build

##### song format #####
##
## for song format you can use:
##
## %l - length
## %f - filename
## %D - directory
## %a - artist
## %A - album artist
## %t - title
## %b - album
## %y - year
## %n - track number (01/12 -> 01)
## %N - full track info (01/12 -> 01/12)
## %g - genre
## %c - composer
## %p - performer
## %d - disc
## %C - comment
## $R - begin right alignment
##
## you can also put them in { } and then it will be displayed
## only if all requested values are available and/or define alternate
## value with { }|{ } eg. {%a - %t}|{%f}
##
## Note: If you want to set limit on maximal length of a tag, just
## put the appropriate number between % and character that defines
## tag type, e.g. to make album take max. 20 terminal cells, use '%20b'.
##
## Note: Format that is similar to "%a - %t" (i.e. without any additional
## braces) is equal to "{%a - %t}", so if one of the tags is missing,
## you'll get nothing.
##
## text can also have different color than the main window has,
## eg. if you want length to be green, write $3%l$9
##
## available values:
##
## - 0 - default window color (discards all other colors)
## - 1 - black
## - 2 - red
## - 3 - green
## - 4 - yellow
## - 5 - blue
## - 6 - magenta
## - 7 - cyan
## - 8 - white
## - 9 - end of current color

## Note: colors can be nested.

## markers used for text attributes. They are followed by character '$'.
## After that you can put:
##
## - b - bold text
## - u - underline text
## - r - reverse colors
## - a - use alternative character set
##
## If you don't want to use an attribute anymore, just put it again, but
## this time insert character '/' between '$' and attribute character,
## e.g. {$b%t$/b}|{$r%f$/r} will display bolded title tag or filename
## with reversed colors.

##### columns settings #####
##
## syntax of song columns list format is "column column etc."
##
## - syntax for each column is:
##
## (width of column)[column's color]{displayed tag}
##
## Note: Width is by default in %, if you want a column to
## have fixed size, add 'f' after the value, e.g. (10)[white]{a}
## will be the column that take 10% of screen (so the real column's
## width will depend on actual screen size), whereas (10f)[white]{a}
## will take 10 terminal cells, no matter how wide the screen is.
##
## - color is optional (if you want the default one, type [])
##
## Note: You can give a column additional attributes by putting appropriate
## character after displayed tag character. Available attributes are:
##
## - r - column will be right aligned
## - E - if tag is empty, empty tag marker won't be displayed
##
## You can also:
##
## - give a column custom name by putting it after attributes,
##   separated with character ':', e.g. {lr:Length} gives you
## right aligned column of lengths named "Length".
##
## - define sequence of tags, that have to be displayed in case
## predecessor is empty in a way similar to the one in classic
##   song format, i.e. using '|' character, e.g. {a|c|p:Owner}
## creates column named "Owner" that tries to display artist
## tag and then composer and performer if previous ones are
##   not available.

Re: [SOLVED] ncmpcpp always showing PAUSE

Looks like your output settings don't work. Try to replace them with

audio_output {
     type      "alsa"
     name      "My ALSA Device"
     device    "default"
}

Re: [SOLVED] ncmpcpp always showing PAUSE

Are you launching mpd globally, or through an autostart file (either .xinitrc or something else) as local user or using the systemd --user method? I ask because I ran into problems it seems when I used the third option, the easiest way is to do the second one, just launching it at start up through a startup file.

Also, if you are launching it on login automatically, it is unnecessary to have port or user designated, or even the music directory if your xdg settings point to it. In my audio settings I have this:

audio_output {
	type		"alsa"
	name		"My ALSA Device"
#	device		"hw:0,0"	# optional
#	format		"44100:16:2"	# optional
	mixer_type      "software"	# optional
#	mixer_device	"default"	# optional
	mixer_control	"PCM"		# optional
##	mixer_index	"0"		# optional
}

Everything works fine this way for me.

One final thing that might be causing problems is your symlink settings, I am not sure but whatever directory your symlinks point to, will need proper user access settings. I think the mpd user needs read and execute permissions on that directory, but I am not 100% sure on that point.

Edit: when I take another look at your settings, I saw you have group and bind to host set as well, I don't have these set myself, I don't think you need them set either. If you have the mpd service launching at start up it may be looking at the wrong locations for it's log files and so on, because I don't think if launching as root it follows relative links such as ~/music, you would need the full path. It's confusing so that's why I have my openbox ~/.config/openbox/autostart file launch mpd with the line mpd ~/.mpd/mpd.conf & because it is the simplest solution.

Re: [SOLVED] ncmpcpp always showing PAUSE

thx Army and felixculpa
I tried, but it didn't work out. And it shows like this all the time. 'Enter' is the key to play, right?
And I found that the song can be played in Browser view mode, but not in the Playlist, and when it plays in Browser view, there is no sound.

Edit:To felixcupa, I start mpd with 'mpd mpdconf' in terminal, not at boot or .xinitrc.

Re: [SOLVED] ncmpcpp always showing PAUSE

If you start mpd like this:

$ mpd -v --no-daemon --stdout

Do you get any meaningful information?

Like Army says this does sound (lol) like an output problem.

That is weird, did you make all the proper directories and files necessary, such as ~/.mpd/playlists? I would suggest moving your config file into your .mpd directory too. The sound issue probably has something to do with the sound config settings in mpdconf. Sound works fine everywhere else I assume, and it's just mpd+ncmcpp that is silent?

Re: [SOLVED] ncmpcpp always showing PAUSE

Thx to all, it's solved.
I ran 'mpd -v --no-daemon --stdout' and ncmpcpp
Then I google the output error msg, which is the same as this post:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-87 … art-0.html

drop user and group settings fixed it.
