initiate a kde environment with a minimalistic window manager (i3)

I'm using i3 as my window manager, and starting it from the console with startx and .xinitrc.

Even though I prefer the minimilist tiling window manager, I still like to use a number of kde programs.

What should I put into my .xinitrc before 'exec i3', in order to best accomodate the background kde environment?

Long time to get back to this, but here's what appeared to be what I was looking for - in my .xinitrc:

kdeinit +kcminit +knotify
kwrapper ksmserver $KDEWM
exec i3
