Best online game for low specs

Hello everyone,

I wonder what is the best online game one can play with an integrated intel chipset?

I have tried quakelive which has a good community and it also run smoothly (~80 fps) on my computer. What else could you think of?

Thanks a lot for your help !

Angrybirds works fine.

I found a tic tac toe site that should work on any old hardware.

Do you really want a list of every online game that can run, or do you want to provide some information on what you are actually looking for?

A list can be very useful since I think I am far to be the only one to have such specs, right?

Re: Best online game for low specs

I think Trilby was trying to say, that unless you are more specific, the list would be very long. Online games can include all the random flash games you find on the internet not simply games that have an online multiplayer (like MMOs and such).

Such specs as... what? There are different integrated intel chipsets out there. My netbook has one and it won't run quakelive at 80fps.

Open Arena, Red Eclipse, Minecraft, SuperTuxKart... Google "linux games" or whatever.

regnum          mmorpg
pokerth          online texas holdem

these run well for me but i do have a nvidia board with 256 dedicated video mem not sure how your intel compares but with 80 fps seems fine.

Minecraft? are you serious? A game which the whole world is held in ram and can be changed. and the world is infinite.
my system:
i7 3820
16gb ram @2133MHz
EVGA geforce 9800GT
with nvidia propriety drivers and minecraft may lag with 2GB dedicated ram. Without a texture pack. with a texture pack 128x it WILL lag a bit. with a 512x texture it will just freeze.

Maybe get a graphics card that isn't a 9800GT.

Technically, the worlds in minecraft are not infinite, the size limit is 4096 million km^2. It should run on Intel GPU, it's not a graphically demanding game. All it needs is MOAR RAM, most Java gadgets do ;p

Re: Best online game for low specs

I'm not really sure what you mean by "2GB dedicated ram", but if I had a setup like that (with 16GB of RAM, I don't see how you'd be wanting for more as far as Minecraft is concerned) and Minecraft lagged for me, then the first thing I'd look into would be something that I might have done wrong to cause it. If I found nothing, I'd look into upgrading the GPU because that one is so old and weak. I would expect it to be able to run Minecraft, but you never know.

If you like strategy try Wesnoth. Its great as singleplayer with campaigns and also awesome to play with friends over the internet. You can really dig yourself in and one game can last hours, or you can play more boldly and a game can be finished within 20 minutes.

Just beware of the "one more turn" syndrome when playing alone. It's not as bad as with civ, but it can be pretty bad...

Re: Best online game for low specs

Oh my gosh I've been following this thread from it's creation and I still have NO IDEA what it's about. yikes

Are you talking about video games that are embedded in a web browser? Or, video games that connect to other plays via the Internet? What is "low specs"? Do emulated games count? How about games in an emulator that runs in a web browser? What genre do you want? How about THE COLLOSAL CAVE ADVENTURE? That can be played online and the system requirements are pretty much any toaster that runs NetBSD.

Whatever. It doesn't matter. The answer to your question is "Tux Racer". In any thread about Linux gaming the answer is always Tux Racer. wink

Re: Best online game for low specs

low spec is relitive my computer is low spec as it is about 7 years old with basic dual core 512Mhz 2.10Ghz 256 dedicated video mem  with 1 gig shared(slower). we can even go into the p3 range of what 1 gig max and not to bottleneck a 128 video ram which will run quite a bite I believe it will run urban terror type grafix, then there is the issue with brandwidth I mean you are not going to play most/any fps with 56k.

so what is a low spec now days?

Re: Best online game for low specs

drcouzelis: Sorry for the lack of precision. When I mean low specs, I wanted to say Intel chipset including gen3 and so on. And by online, I meant «mutiplayer» online games.

Personally I played a lot of fighting games with GGPO on windows, as well as chess games. This kind of multiplayer games.

+1 for rougelikes. Very addictive, fun, and the text based ones are easy to run. Almost any computer can handle 88 lines of ASCII text.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is one of my favorites, and it's in [community].

EDIT: okay, I didn't know you meant multiplayer, sorry!

@ttouch. Yes, your video card is a "toy" compared to that machine. Mincraft will run better with a better video card. Check out an nVidia GTX 560 or better. It's definitely a nice setup, though!

Re: Best online game for low specs

I loled at "low spec"
Anyway, try Path of Exile, runs great under Wine.

Just make sure to change the directory to where the game is before you run wine (after you ran the installer the first time)
So a script would be:

#!/bin/bash
cd /go/to/your/game/directory
wine Client.exe
