I think I corrupted Arch Linux...

Hi, I've had an install of Arch Linux on my drive for a while now, and I loved it. I wanted to install Debian to try it out, and the dual boot also worked fine. However, after I tried editing the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file to change the name of the menu entry, I could not boot in to Arch anymore. When I select Arch Linux from the GRUB menu, it shows me a black screen, and nothing else. I can't access the partition I have Arch on when I am on Debian, but when I boot Fedora from a live CD, I am able to access it. Did I corrupt the partition? How do I go about restoring Arch Linux?

You should at least post the file.

Re: I think I corrupted Arch Linux...

This is why you shouldn't edit grub.cfg if you don't know what you're doing. That file is a mess to understand. Chroot into Arch and re-generate a new grub.cfg.

You can't access your Arch system files from Debian? Well, duh... The files were created by the "root" user when you installed it, so log in as root on Debian and try again. Linux LiveCDs usually have only the root user available, so that's why you can access the files using the Fedora LiveCD.

Re: I think I corrupted Arch Linux...

Very well.

Here is the copy of grub.cfg.example that I tried to copy to grub.cfg (which didn't help, by the way): http://pastebin.com/vHTw1nnx

Here is the edit that I made: http://pastebin.com/JnDZuaM5

The only difference is in line 81.

Well,

I just want to mention, that there is also a difference in line 1 first char.
I'm not sure whether just made a typo while pasting.

I think the best solution will be the one DSpider supposed.

Any more info? What did you change/fix? A copy of grub.cfg would be nice - other users can learn from your mistake

Re: I think I corrupted Arch Linux...

hi.

I think you forgot a single quote in line 81.
try with 'Arch GNU/Linux'.
