How do I turn off the XFCE-SVN compositor?

Yes, XFCE 4.4 kicks Gnome's arse... But how do I turn off the damned composite manager?

(BTW, Thunar is f***ing awesome. Nautilus, I banish from my machine thy accursed sluggishness forever! 8) )

Turn off the Composite extension in xorg.conf 8)

compile xfwm4 with --disable-compositor and disable stuff in xorg.conf

Regarding Thunar... hey, I'm eager to try it and sure hope it's that good.

I've tried lots of file managers over the years and Nautilus is one of the "suckiest" out there, in my opinion. Xffm is the first one that comes to mind when I try to think of file managers that are worse.

I noticed another version of XFCE4 has just been released but it appears to still contain Xffm with all its clunkiness.

Looking forward to trying some Thunar...

Thunar is cool, but it isn't complete. You can't delete files, for example.

But once it is complete, it is going to kick the ass off of everything out there, except maybe Evidence (which ain't gonna be ready for a while). It's a real beauty, I've got to say - simple and functional. And it's compatible with Gnome icons, so there shan't be any more trouble with ugly icon themes.

(Actually, IMHO, Nautilus is one of the better FMs out there. It may not be a nice, simple file manager, but at least it acts like one. )
