Gdm error causing hang at boot

Hi all!

I'm a newbie to Arch, and have gotten myself into a rut.  I've got arch set up on my system with an NVIDIA optimus card, and I was trying to get compiz up and running.  Compiz kept crashing gnome whenever I tried to start it, so I assumed that the hybrid graphics card makes running compiz impossible so I was ready to give up.  Somehow I ended up setting compiz as the default window manager and now when I try to boot into arch it just hangs after systemd-fsck.  I can boot into runlevel 1 and work from the command line, but I'm not sure what to fix.  I'd appreciate any help you could give me.

The only error I can see in the journal is this:

GLib-GObject-CRITICAL: g_object_ref: assertion 'object->refcount > 0' failed
GLib-GObject-CRITICAL: g_object_unref: assertion 'object->refcount > 0' failed
WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.028283 seconds

I should add - the only error I can see in the journal is:

GLib-GObject-CRITICAL: g_object_ref: assertion 'object->refcount > 0' failed
GLib-GObject-CRITICAL: g_object_unref: assertion 'object->refcount > 0' failed
WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.028283 seconds
