I am guessing that you probably need to change either the Locale or the encoding info (i.e. UTF-8) in the Locale. Also possibly, (but less likely IMO) a change in fonts would fix the issue.

Should I switch to an ISO encoding then? I'll try that this evening.

I un-commented the gd_GB.UTF-8 locale. After a restart the issue is resolved. thank you.
