Normal user can't use anything in GNOME

So I just got done doing my first arch linux install. I'm also fairly new to linux in general, but didn't have too many issues. So I got GNOME up and running, but when I'm on my normal (non root) login it won't let me change the background or even open anything at all!

I've tried doing some google searches but haven't found anything. Any ideas?

Which groups is the normal user a member of?

I trust Microsoft about as far as I can comfortably spit a dead rat.
