I just installed Arch today an im trying to get dvd/cd mounting working. Ive already read the wiki, specifically articles on Udev/Udisks(im using xfce4) and fstab. I also tried poking around /dev and /media to see if i could find it but /media was empty and i couldnt find it on/dev. Would anyone care to poke me in the right direction?. Cheers ![]()

Hi,
if your drive is detected, you should be able to locate /dev/sr0. This is the device you should try to mount.

On xfce4, all should be fine if you install gvfs (not sure that the whole gvfs is really needed or only some of its dependencies). You need to be properly autentificated as a local user though. This should be done automatically if you login with a supported login manager (I think all are; I know that plain xdm is) or through the console and startx. As a quick check; try to play some audio file (no not add yourself to the audio group). If you can; then you are correctly authenticated (if you can't but can as root then you are probably not correctly authenticated). You can also check the status of loginctl show-session $XDG_SESSION_ID

Is it an AudioCD or a blank disc?

Ok do not do two steps at once. First check, if your device is detected, thus check, if you can mount /dev/sr0 as root. Also be aware, that you cannot mount audio cds!

The drive is not detected, sorry for the late reply.
Edit: Its a dvd which contains .avi files, I installed vlc and it keeps showing an error.

it keeps showing an error.
It's usually a good idea to tell us what the error is, because most of us can't read minds.
Sakura:-
Mobo: MSI MAG X570S TORPEDO MAX // Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X @4.9GHz // GFX: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT // RAM: 32GB (4x 8GB) Corsair DDR4 (@ 3000MHz) // Storage: 1x 3TB HDD, 6x 1TB SSD, 2x 120GB SSD, 1x 275GB M2 SSD
Making lemonade from lemons since 2015.

Now: Does /dev/sr0 exist or does it not ???
edit: And I don't think, that vlc can handle any not mounted dvd/cdrom, which is not an video/audio dvd/cdrom. (And no: Just because a dvd does contain audio files, it is not and audio-dvd.)
