No more newsletters?

Serious question. When I was away, was a decision made to drop the newsletters?

I can't say I've seen anything saying to this effect. I always loved those newsletters. I thought that with 3 editors things were back on track.

Re: No more newsletters?

As far as I know, there is still a newsletter.  Probably the 3 editors were too busy and/or forgot about it. :?

Re: No more newsletters?

I got too busy so had to drop out - the other two then did shortly after.  I'm sure if anyone wants to volunteer, you can talk to xentac for svn access.

Re: No more newsletters?

There is no newsletter anymore.  Phrakture got too busy, then I got too busy, Jens wanted to make it obligatory for TUs to contribute and Jason only played a small part anyway.  I suggested to Jens that he should look for volunteers to create a new team but he didn't seem about to take it on himself to do so and I have seen and heard little from him since...

And that was the end of the newsletter.  To be honest tho I think the dev blog has done wonders for the intra-community communication situation and the only thing I really miss are the bits about folding@home etc.

Which we could automate!  Some snappy php coder needs to get to work and make a self generating newsletter, using rss feeds and data from the bugs/packages pages. (devblog feed, forum feed, etc)

Syndicating syndication back into a non-syndicated format...our technological innovations never cease to cover the full spectrum possibility, apprently regardless of desirability wink

No offense, phrak.  I just think it would be time waste on very few that can't work an RSS reader wink

Does not compute.  There's already a million programs that are a waste of time, but it never stopped anyone before... /me glances at figlet and cowsay

I, personally, think it'd be funny to do - but I don't have enough freetime to really get it al together.

I agree that the blog has kind of replaced the newsletter. For the folding@home and other stuff,  maybe posting them in the blog at regular time (each two weeks or monthly) would complete the switch newsletter -> blog.  Unless nobody has time to gather the data. :?

Re: No more newsletters?

No one would have to complain about late newsletters if it was a dynamic newsletter wink

sad That's a shame.

I agree that the dev blog helps but it still doesn't help the forum users know what's going on in the mailing lists and vice versa.

I'd volunteer myself but I don't think I follow the events in the various mediums to summarise them adequately.

Re: No more newsletters?

the newsletter is resting atm,
first phrakture quit then dibble and then me sad

i asked both here on the forum and on the tu mailing list and i've also proposed a few times that the tus should write the newsletter but no positive answers yet so thats it. if anyone is ready to pick it up you can talk to xentac and maybe he can give you svn access to it.
