[mysteriously solved] dmenu_run suddenly shows no applications

I dont know what happened here. A minute ago, all worked fine. And suddenly dmenu_run only gives me an empty dmenu window.
I tried deleting .dmenu_cache - no success.

Anyone else had this and knows how to fix it?

He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.

yep, all these years later, this still happens.

anyone know how/why?

and what to do about it, so dmenu is populated sooner rather than waiting for unknown duration and unknown events to happen?
