No software mixing.

Followed the wiki, no software mixing. When running MPD, there is no other sound outputtable. When I'm running\
Mumble, there is no other sound outputtable. I am using an USB sound card, digital audio out that is. It's probably just my config file.

Opening chosen ALSA Output failed: Device or resource busy

~/.asoundrc and /etc/asound.conf:

pcm.card0 {
    type hw
    card 0
}
ctl.card0 {
    type hw
    card 0
}

pcm.!default front:Audio

pcm.dsp {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "dmix"
}

Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Re: No software mixing.

for what i've understood theres is no mixing applied to audio going out of front speakers. so, maybe that pcm.!default front:Audio is the problem.
anyway i doubt your sound comes out of your usb card. what's the output if "aplay -l" ?
usb (HQ) sound cards generally has hw mixing. does yours?

Does it work without any config file at all? You might want to try pulseaudio in case this gets too annoying. I hear it's been a lot better lately.

Commenting out that line removed all sound for me.

Card 2 is my USB DAC, Fiio e10. I don't know whether it supports HW mixing or not. The reason I use an external DAC is that my internal soundcard is broken, and only plays on one channel.

Without config file I get no audio at all.

so, yes, use pulseaudio and you'll be fine.

Re: No software mixing.

Installed and configured Puseaudio, yet no software mixing. MPD hogs up the ALSA output it seems.

Re: No software mixing.

Did you modify mpd's configuration to use pulse?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mp … g_mpd.conf

Re: No software mixing.

card 2: Audio [DigiHug USB Audio], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]

if this is your external soundcard, it addresses to "card 2" and "device 0".
change your asoundrc default card according to aplayer -l output

Re: No software mixing.

That didn't do anything at all. Still, device is busy.
