Hi!
I'm coming from linux mint and I'm totally amazed by simplicity of Arch Linux. However, I have problem with installing my printer (Canon IP1900). I'm unable to install canon-cups-3.00 from AUR (using yaourt). It gives me this error:

I'm fighting with it for hours, and still nothing...
Offline
first off, try editing the PKGBUILD to update some of the macro names. Run:
sed -i 's/AM_CONFIG_HEADER/AC_CONFIG_HEADERS/g' configure.in
just before the ./autogen.sh command and see what happens.
Also, make sure you have the entire base-devel group installed.

As you propably saw, there are two autogen.sh commands in PKGBUILD. If I add the line before first it gives me this:

Forget the second loop for now, you're not even making it through the first iteration of the first loop. Add autogen.sh to the end of that sed command.
sed -i 's/AM_CONFIG_HEADER/AC_CONFIG_HEADERS/g' configure.in autogen.sh
Don't forget to delete the src directory after each try. We need to start with a fresh source dir to tell what's going on.
Edit: I just looked at the second loop. It will need:
sed -i 's/AM_CONFIG_HEADER/AC_CONFIG_HEADERS/g' configures/configure.in.new autogen.sh
before the ./autogen.sh command.

It looks like this time it changed something so I gave it two tries again:

I should have seen that earlier. The second loop will need a second sed command along with the first:
sed -i '/AM_PROG_CC_STDC/d' configures/configure.in.new

yeah, it gets through the first iteration of the subloop, but dies on the second iteration. It's a code error, though, not a build system error like we've been dealing with up to this point. Hopefully someone who knows more about coding than me will show up.

Thanks, that you helped with what you could, I hope that someone else who could help further will appear.
Could you explain what exactly did we do? ![]()

lol, sure.
The AutoMake macro "AM_CONFIG_HEADER" is obsolete. It was depreciated in 2002 and replaced by "AC_CONFIG_HEADERS". AutoMake 1.13 finally removed it completely. Sed is a stream editor that lets you make changes to text streams. using the 's/foo/bar/' format replaces all instances of "foo" with "bar", so we replaced all instances of the old macro name with the new one.
The AutoMake macro "AM_PROG_CC_STDC" was also depreciated in 2002 and removed from AutoMake 1.13. It's functionality was merged into "AC_PROG_CC". Since the configure scripts were already calling AC_PROG_CC, all was had to do was remove the lines with the old one. '/foobar/d' deletes all lines that contain a match for "foobar".

I fixed the code error and updated the packet.
Unfortunately I am not familiar with the AutoMake system. Can somebody check whether the problems described above are still there?
On my system the build runs without errors but with some warnings. Here is the build log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6341429/
