[Printer & Scanner] - Canon MP280 - Freeze and cups.

Hello,

First, I want to apologize for my language...and then, to be straight in my explanations :

> Printer All-In-One Canon MP280.
> If I connect it to my PC, this one freezes directly, forcing me to hard-reboot.
> If I boot with the printer connected, lsusb recognizes "Canon".
> I have installed Cups, client, server, and ran systemctl...
> I am a noob on archlinux (yesterday)
> This printer and scanner used to work on Debian Stable with proprietary drivers.
> Neither gimp or gwenview or others detect it...

Thanks you for your help. smile

Re: [Printer & Scanner] - Canon MP280 - Freeze and cups.

I have a MP270, which I believe is about the same. I am on 32 bits but hope that it still applies. It was tricky to have this printer properly working. In order to have this printer working, I have:
1) recompiled cups, disabling libusb (unfortunately there is a bug in the package, simply passing --disable-libusb to the configure will not work. You have to manually edit config.h after running ./configure (or patch ./configure, you will see a line that enable libusb if we are not on Darwin). I am not sure it is still necessary but was in the past.
2) Install cnijfilter-mp280 or cnijfilter-mp250 from the AUR
3) In order to be able to print other than in draft mode, use the PPD provided here http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … stcount=30 (with the cnijfilter package above).

The scanner part of the printer works out of the box with sane (use xsane, for example).

It would be nice to put a more informative subject, including the printer model. The problem you describe is indeed printer specific; it might attract the attention of someone who have the same printer (like myself).

I managed to make it works.

I don't know about freezes...Sometimes, the system does when I connect the printer, sometimes doesn't...
