hi, I don't know what is happening on my computer, I need to set the locale ja_JP, I follow the wiki , so I uncomment the ja_JP.UTF-8 , but I get this error mesagge whenever I run locale-gen:
Generating locales...
en_GB.UTF-8... done
ja_JP.EUC-JP...cannot open locale definition file `ja_JP': No such file or directory
the wiki isn't very clear about this error.
my locale.conf is set ja_JP utf-8 but I can even generate the locale, what I'm missing?

Works here. What's the output of
file /usr/share/i18n/locales/ja_JP
Also, you might want to uncomment "ja_JP.UTF-8 UTF-8" rather than "ja_JP.EUC-JP EUC-JP" if you want to use UTF8.

the output is
/usr/share/i18n/locales/ja_JP: ERROR: cannot open `/usr/share/i18n/locales/ja_JP' (No such file or directory)
yeah, I know it's utf-8 , that was just a test.

You're missing that file, so try re-installing glibc.

thanks! that works!, but there is another problem, I use xfce , the menu entries are in japanese, but not the gtk apps (all in english), also the qt apps are all in japanese, but don't accept directories with non-unicode names (for example, clementine don't show folders with japanese, chinese and russian names)

I'm not an expert on this, and I don't use clementine or qt apps, so I can't really help there. But I generated the Japanese UTF8 locale, used localectl to switch to it, logged out and back in, and Openbox, Firefox and Thunar seemed to be working fine (although I don't have Firefox's Japanese i18n pack installed, so it's menus were mostly in English still).
If you're having trouble with specific apps, perhaps they're missing translation files?

well isn't a specific application, is all the gtk applications (terminal, thunar, spacefm, leafpad, gimp, zim, inkscape, and a long etc.....) actually the qt applications works ok (the clementine problem is solved, just update my music library) I don't know what I'm missing, it's very annoying set the locale ja_JP and see everything in english xD

What's the output of 'locale' and 'localectl'? Do you see any messages when running these applications from a terminal?
