I was just reading about the merger of ntfsprogs and NTFS-3G in April 2011 and was wondering how come we have two different packages in the [Extra] repo? Didn't Tuxera combine ntfsprogs and NTFS-3G into one package when the projects merged? The Arch Wiki heavily pushes NTFS-3G and briefly mentions ntfsprogs at the end only to enable formatting. I'm curious about the functionality each package provides over the other.

Interesting question. I didn't know they were merged. Looking at abs, both packages are created from the same PKGBUILD.
ntfsprogs contains utilities related to formatting and other filesystem related utilites, while ntfs-3g package contains the utilities related to mounting.
But why they have not been merged, I have no idea.

It looks like they weren't combined together went they merged upstream. As ntfsprogs depends on ntfs-3g, there's little point in having them seperate. I'll look into merging them.
